Surftones
quartet specializes in the fantastic art of singing Barbershop Harmony. The close harmony in each song they sing has been pleasing audiences near and far for over five years. The total singing experience of this quartet measures over 200 years! In 2003, at the International Convention of SPEBSQSA in Montreal, Surftones were awarded the 2003 Outstanding Achievement Award by the Public Relations Officers and Bulletin Editors of the Barbershop Harmony Society [P.R.O.B.E.] for their continuous promotion of Barbershop Harmony wherever they go.

Members of the quartet are:

Tenor - Adrian Bourgeois started his barbershop career in the Research Triangle Park Chapter in Raleigh, North Carolina at the tender age of 14. Migrating south to Baton Rouge, Louisiana brought him to bayou country's Sugarcane Chorus where he helped ring chords for 9 years. Graduating from Louisiana State University led him to the Permian Basin that is, Lubbock, Texas. The Singing Plainsmen Chorus is where he hung his hat for the next year. He credits his father Ed Bourgeois, and his twin brother Joel, for making those years so enjoyable by making up three-fourths of the quartet "Sunland Express" that entertained audiences all across the fruited plain for eight years. The following 15 years brought with it a hiatus from singing as he established both a family and a successful career as a personal financial advisor franchised through American Express Financial Advisors. Besides singing with Surftones, Adrian is also a member of The Daytona Beach Surfside Chorus where he is the President and Tenor Section Leader. He and his wife Cindy reside in Ormond Beach, Florida with their two sons, Charlie and Garrison.

Lead - Bill Hibbert is the newest member of the quartet. Born in the Pittsburgh area he was active from an early age in choral groups such as the Westinghouse Male Chorus and did a variety of solo work with dance bands and private events. Retiring to Ponce Inlet, Florida, in 1988, he turned his hand to Barbershopping because of it's close relationship to the a cappella music he'd always enjoyed. Bill joined the Surfside Chorus in 1989 and soon had a quartet performing regularly in the area. But after 15 years singing together, he retired again. Missing that quartet experience, the opportunity to sing with Surftones proved too difficult to resist and we're glad he didn't. Bill was named Barbershopper Of The Year twice in the Surfside Chorus; the first time in 1990 and more recently in 2001 for the year he spent as our Director. Bill is currently the Lead Section Leader.

Baritone - Jack Newcomer is a former State Trooper from Maryland. He moved to Florida, with his wife Dotty (who is also our quartet's business manager), in 1992 and began singing with the Surfside Chorus. His singing career started when he was 7 years old singing in church plays. He has sung with several dance bands including Myron Florin's band from the Lawrence Welk Show. He was guest artist at the Army-Navy Country Club in Virginia for several years and has performed both stateside and abroad. He has appeared in "Oklahoma", "The King and I", and he also performs the National Anthem, a cappella, for major sporting events. He was named "Voice of the Sun Devils" when Daytona Beach had a professional hockey team. He has named "Barbershopper Of The Year" in 1997 for his contributions to the Surfside Chorus where he is an At-Large Board member and the Baritone Section Leader.

Bass - Christopher Baker is the only member of the quartet who isn't from the North (although he's been there a few times). Born in Ohio, his parents moved him to Miami, Florida when he was 5 years old and he migrated to the Daytona area in 1996. Christopher has been on and off stage since the third grade appearing in everything from revues to legitimate theatre. He has sung the male lead in "The Sound of Music", Cole Porter's "Aladdin", "Cinderella", and sang Milles Gloriosus in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum", to name a few. While in the U.S. Navy, he was a member of the "Bluejackets Choir" and sang on a U.S.O. show with Bob Hope in San Diego in 1968. He has been in and out of AM radio for nearly forty years starting in the U.S. Navy on Armed Forces Radio and is still occasionally heard on WELE-AM 1380 in Ormond Beach and WFOY-AM 1240 in St. Augustine doing voiceovers and commercials. Christopher won his first Barbershop Society blue ribbon as part of the competition unit of Surfside Chorus in 2000 at the Sunshine District Regionals and his second blue ribbon with that same unit in 2001. He carries his pitch pipe everywhere just in case he finds three other guys ready to sing Barbershop. On January 10th, 2003, Christopher was named "Barbershopper Of The Year" for 2002, by the Surfside Chorus. An honor of which he is extremely proud! In 2004, he received his second P.R.O.B.E. Outstanding Achievement Award for his promotion of Barbershop Harmony online. After serving as Chapter President for three years, Christopher is currently Marketing & P.R. Vice President and Bass Section Leader of the Daytona Beach Metro Chapter, Director of Marketing & Public Relations for the Sunshine District [State of Florida], and serving on the Barbershop Harmony Society's Marketing & P.R. Committee. He was nominated for Barbershopper Of The Year in 2007.

This quartet has a repertoire which includes our National Anthem, patriotic songs, traditional Barbershop tunes, and religious music. All music is sung a cappella. Their only instrument, other than their voices, is a pitch pipe.
They are ready to sing for YOU!
